On the day of June 28th 1914, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated in Sarajevo, by a Serbian name Gavrilo Princip. Princip was one of six assassins, whose goals was to break off Austria-Hungary’s South Slav provinces so they could be combined into a Yugoslavia. This assassination led directly to the first world war. Before the war actually started there were alliances made. There were two alliances, the Triple Alliance, and the Triple Entente. The Triple Alliance consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. Whereas the Triple Entente was made up of Britain, France, and Russia.
