The graphic novel Vietnamerica by GB Tran portrays the struggle in the life of a Vietnamese refugee through mostly illustrations and some text. The Vietnam War produced thousands of refugees, most of whom share similar experiences to GB Tran’s. The lives of Vietnamese refugees were far from glorious, as they were often abused in many different forms by different armies. There are many instances where GB Tran illustrates horrible things which are done to his and many other families, and these actions still have lasting effects on GB’s family to this day. One effect on GB’s family that is caused from the Vietnam War is the pain which was and still is being endured. In the graphic novel, Tran illustrates this by showing French soldiers going
