Looking between my kinship chart and the Gebusi it is clear that they do things different. Some of the things that are definitely different is, first of all when the Gebusi talk about their family they use some of the same terminology as we do but for different people then we do. In consideration on pg. 68 it is talked about how when the Gebusi people say “brother” or “sister” they only are traced through the father’s line only while here in the US what the Gebusi consider “brothers” and “sisters” we call “cousins”. But also when tracing our family back we trace on both sides of our family, while the Gebusi only trace through the fathers. And if you have any cousins on your mother's side of the family it would be considered marriageable, for the Gebusi. This takes us into some of what is considered the norms. While in almost every type of clan, tribe, maridable system, it is almost always a taboo for any child to have a relationship with either the mother or father. Also in many cases if the sister exchange does not work then the sibling that did get married is usually the first suspect to have put a curse or sorcery on to the family. 70% of the time the gebusi turn to the use of sorcery, and if the woman is not replaced by another woman, she can be replaced by taking the life of the person who wishes death upon them. (pg. 73) For the Gebusi this is what is normal. When reading this was shocking how much of a difference there was with the Gebusi and what we do here, it actually is very sad and makes me thankful that I live in the US. When thinking about what we do here as “normal” it is a huge relief that we do not try and do sister exchanges and that if a spouse is to die from that, that we don't assume sorcery and go on man hunts and kill because of
