To begin to understand the meaning of gender dysphoria it is necessary to disable the term to define each word separately. Gender is defined by the Oxford dictionary as the state of being male or female[1] which refers to the social norms –the rules of behaviour that are considered acceptable in group or society”[2]- expected of each gender. Whilst dysphoria is defined as “a state of feeling unwell or unhappy” [3] therefore Gender Dysphoria is the psychological condition of being unhappy or distressed by the social norms attached to the sex and the sex they were assigned at birth. Therefore, parents/careers are looking for a quick solution that will permenantley resolve their childs mental distress. It is at this stage that parents may give consent for their child to take gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue (GnHr analogue) or Puberty blocker such as Zoladex[4] which will prevent the male or female body from developing unwanted feminine or masculine traits since their hormones have been blocked. Since Gnhr analogues are just blockers when medication is ceased the process of puberty will continue, but there are also some downsides to this 'solution'. Many transgender website tend to highlight the positives of 'transitioning' and do not mention the severe side affects such as "heart failure, obstructive pulmonary disease and severe allergic reactions as well as more minor side effects such as lethargy and nausea" in addition to strelization if the child decides to continue to take puberty blockers into their teenage years they can then give consent to take cross-sex hormones which has serious repercussions such as streilization. . To begin to research I had to separate the topic into 4/5 that could the conduct deeper research of each section. The first section I began to research was understanding Gender Dysphoria in this section I my research was heavily based on defining gender dysphoria and actually finding out what the condition was, I wanted to be able to define the word intricately so that the reader would have a through understanding of the condition. I also researched the effects of Gender Dysphoria on adolscents and how and where it was currently being treated.
