Greene states that “... real men never do anything that might appear as feminine”(Article 2). This shows that men try to do things that appear as manlike. This starts at a young age, if you refer to “Toys Start the Gender Equality Rift” by Katrin Bennhold, you learn that boys toys include building stuff and activity, where girls toys include beauty and home activities. This shows off later in life, where less than 30 percent of health, social and education workers are men, and more than 75 percent of employees in mining, manufacturing and construction are made up of men (Statistics from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development). Greene also talks about “The Man Box”. The man box includes many guidelines that men have to follow to be a real man. Some of these rules include how real men don’t show their emotions, real men continuously talk and play sports, and real men are never handicapped, disabled or unemployed. These are very unfair standards to follow because real men show their emotions, can be disabled, and they do not always have to talk about, or play sports. Mark Greene also says that, “The Man Box, which demands men model being emotionally tough, isolates and ultimately kills the very men who advocate for it”(Article 2). This proves that gender guidelines are very dangerous because it will ruin people’s perspectives. In “A Doll’s House” by Henrik Ibsen, Ibsen writes about a story of a family during the Victorian era. In the story, there are many references to gender roles. In the beginning of the story Helmer comes home and gives Nora
