In this article, Anna Wagner-Ott discusses the effect that dolls and action figures have on boys and girls. She talks about how dolls and action figures can be a medium to discuss larger issues with children, such as race, class and gender identities. She then discusses how art educators can use dolls and action figures in their classrooms to help their students discover their identities through analyzing them and the influence these toys have on their daily lives. Wagner-Ott argues that the closeness of dolls and action figures to the children’s lives plays an important role in establishing their identities.
