Men are known to be the domineering force while women are seen as submissive. But in this film the Fairy Godmother is seen to be domineering as the men are submissive to her. The first instance of this is shown after the Fairy Godmother learns that Fiona is married to an ogre. She then goes to King Harold to remind him what she did for him and what deal was made. She threatens to take away his fairytale if he doesn’t get rid of Shrek. Another time her true colors show is when Shrek went to her for advice as to make Fiona happy. But instead she rebuked him and told him that ogres don’t belong in fairytales. Once again when she had Shrek arrested she was showing him that she has power over him. In the final scene when Shrek busts on the scene to rescue his wife the Fairy Godmother grows infuriated saying “Didn’t I tell you ogres don’t live happily ever after.” Then using her magic wand to cast a spell on him.
