A constant debate that universities are examining is whether college students should be required to take traditional general education courses or only stick with classes in specialized study. Many students complain about these requirements and think they are costly and useless, but as a student myself, I believe that general education classes are beneficial in many ways. College is a time for finding yourself and many students enter college without a decided major. The opportunity of taking general education can help students find their interests and expand knowledge for everyday use. With taking, many courses of various topics it helped me choose a major and narrow down the classes. I had my heart set on computer science but after taking in introduction class, God changed my heart and led it into a different field of study. Without taking general education, I would not be able to expand my knowledge helping me decide what I enjoy. Many people change their major in college and I believe general education has a lot of influence leading people in other majors. College is a time of learning and expanding and taking courses to fill general education requirements can help you in the world and your major. Taking a foreign language can allow one to use that information on a daily basis from ordering food to talking to a business partner.
