Introduction General John Joseph (“Black Jack”) Pershing, America’s superior leader, led our army through World War I[WW1] with such dedication and loyalty to our country, that the Army could do nothing but follow him. Without out him, the army could have lost their great forces and lose their best, and do nothing in the war. As a young boy, his father wanted him to continue in his path, but that was not Pershing’s interests. His passion was a to become a lawyer but he went to college his passion changed. He had a short, yet long life before becoming the man who he was. These things include family crisis, working a farm, going to school, hardship, and teaching others. But soon enough he led the American Expedition Forces (A.E.F.) through World War I. Without him where would we have gone? Where would we be? How could our army and military done their great work they did?

His father, who watched over nine children, had multiple occupations, farming, running a hotel, keeping a store in order, and developing land. His family soon faced economic crisis and when he turned fourteen, he was put in charge of the family and was expected to make it profitable and while attending school, his made it hard on John. The Pershings lost almost all their wealth and his father was forced to work as a traveling salesman, this made him responsible for the family when John’s father was not home. Later, his family could not afford to send him to college, so he taught at rural schools. When John turned seventeen he decided to apply for Annapolis or West Point. Soon enough he became one of the one hundred and four cadets to be accepted to West Point, and this is how his career started. When he went to college he was shooting towards being a lawyer. Soon enough, his mind was set for something different, to become army involved, but without knowing he would, he became a hero to
