Scientist are constantly furthering their knowledge into DNA, and new advances have even helped them predict what certain genetic codes can evolve into. Soon enough, this information will direct scientists toward the ability to predict how an individual will respond to situations and how individuals live on a daily basis. With this ability, scientist will, as they do in GATTACA, rule the world and sentence people to their duties based solely on their DNA. Performing such actions, should be considered a personal invasion of privacy and not allowed. Looking into one’s background without their consent would unethical as would judging a person based on genetic information in which they have no control over. In the movie, however, such actions are considered acceptable and possibly encouraged. Viewing a person’s genetic history is much like performing a background check.
Performing a background check on someone is viewing a person's past and being able to make a judgement on them based on previous actions. This, unlike viewing a person's genetic information, gives a more accurate read on a person since his or her previous actions were chosen by that person, while viewing a person’s genetic history and making a judgement would be similar to saying that person is only capable of such and cannot reach higher
