Genetically Modified foods are a topic that has a lot of controversy. There are many different sides to the argument on whether they are good or bad. Personally I think there are benefits to them that there are disadvantages as they can do a lot of good.
It is argued that if crops can be genetically modified then they will be disease resistant. Plants are known to obtain diseases similar to humans. These are generated by bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms that are the cause of infections. There are numerous sophisticated ways that are suggested to shield plants from these dangerous diseases. When plants catch a virus it usually reduces the produce by a large amount and will lead to countless losses for the farmer. Furthermore once a

Nearly all crops generate substances which are toxic to humans. The crops are alright to eat though because the toxin levels are low enough that they do not cause any harm to humans. The problem that is being faced is that by genetically modifying foods they insert a gene into the crop which could create higher toxin levels and those levels would be dangerous to humans. Furthermore scientists are worried that genetically modified food will give people an allergic reaction as the protein in the plants could provoke an immune response in humans and the numbers of people who react to it will increase. Additionally genetically modified foods also have not been tested properly and fairly. For example when tested on rats their weights were of such a widespread range it made the findings meaningless. They also did not look at the microscopic structure of the tissues on the intestines even after some part of the stomach showed slight necrotic wounds in up to seven out of twenty rats. These were thought of not to be important even though in humans it could cause a life-threatening haemorrhage especially in older people. Within two week of having the genetically modified food over a fifth of the rats had died for ‘unstated
