The novel Genie: A Scientific Tragedy by Russ Rymer, describes the heart wrenching story of a thirteen year old girl who was discovered after years of complete social isolation. Genie, as the girl was later named, was tied down to a potty chair by her father, at only twenty months old, and kept in a dark room during the most vital years of her life. Throughout that time period Genie had no interaction with the outside world and her communication skills were practically nonexistent. When rescued by a social worker, Genie was thought to have a severe case of scoliosis, when in reality her posture and body shape were impaired from the chair she had be strapped down to her whole life. After years of being a sought after experimental subject, it
