Reading and writing surround and enable conversations and innovations in our society. To put it simply, we can find its impact anywhere and everywhere. We can specifically see the effects of reading and writing through the pre-Elizabethan critical theory period figures, such as Sir Thomas Elyot, Thomas Wilson, George Gascoigne, and Sir Phillip Sidney. Elyot's most prominent writing that emphasized his beliefs in the importance of literature was The Book Named The Governor. Wilson established his beliefs in writing in the Art of Rhetorique. Gascoigne specifically focused on the importance of the…show more content… He steadfastly supported appreciating persuasive writing and utilizing it with explicit language to project the ideas one wants to discuss. He also displayed how influential pieces of persuasive intent can shape and influence public opinion. Since these pieces can have such an extraordinary impact on public opinions and views, it is essential for those with the power of influence to utilize these skills. George Gascoigne, known as both a playwright and poet, thought that the power of writing was more impactful and valuable in emotional and creative terms. He also saw the importance of meter and rhyme being utilized. Particularly in his writing, Certain Notes of Instruction, Gascoigne noted how meter and rhyme throughout poetry inspire musicality and rhythm that enhances the poem and its potential impact.
