Both George Orwell and Joan Didion in their piece, “Why I Write,” are trying to answer the same question, “Why (Orwell or Didion) Writes.” Both write for different reasons, which they go into great detail. Orwell writes to change people’s minds, or at least get the mind to think. While Didion writes to see her own thoughts in the written word. They both also go on to say many other things in their text. While talking about why they write they begin to talk about why all writers write. Orwell breaks down why writers write into four main parts. Those four reasons are; sheer egoism, the want to be remembered from your writing, aesthetic enthusiasm, the want to write about the beauty of the world or just to see the beauty of the written
