The protests were peaceful to begin with, calling for the release of the children, democracy and greater freedom for people in the country. The government responded angrily and, on March 18, 2011, the army opened fire on protesters, killing four people. I believe that we can help. The United States should aid and welcoming in as refugees we can. Most of the southern states are completely refusing refugees. While northern states are welcoming but mostly not aware of what is going on. I feel that we should be grateful of the state America is in and also be weary of everything that is around us. We should not let our fellow country be bullied by tyrants and terrorists. Yes, America’s safety is at risk. We are afraid of another act of terrorism against our country. Our people’s safety comes first, they argue, and they aren’t willing to put them at risk for the refugees. Also the resettlement would have cost millions of dollars on top of our already piling debt.
When our country already has a high poverty percentage, the Republican governors argue we don’t need to spend this money. This is true, nevertheless the life inside of Syria is horrible, and these innocent lives need help getting out. Many orphans, young women and children are stranded with no home or even anyone to take care of them, not to mention the horrible human rights violations that are committed.
