I think Washington was hesitant to become president because he didn’t know how to act. Since no one had ever been president previously, there wasn’t anyone to give him advice about the job and to guide him. I think he was afraid of acting like a king when he was elected president. George Washington was the Commander of the Continental Army before this position so he felt a sense of duty, to protect the country he helped create.
