Georgia Tech does a lot to support its students, starting with its Freshman Experience Program. Other schools help new students get acclimated to the new environment, but Georgia Tech has the most in-depth program I have seen, helping freshmen get in contact with their upperclassmen, professors, and faculty. Building connections is an important part of the college experience, and this school pushes for networking early on.
The clubs and activities offered by Georgia Tech also impress me. I want to study electrical engineering, computer science, or physics, and the Aerospace-Design-Build-Fly Club requires knowledge of all three of these …show more content…

My very first week of high school put me out of my element. After being at the top of middle school, I was floundering in a new school with much harder classes, struggling to adapt. There was no way for me to prepare for the new classes, room layouts, teachers, and schedules, but I had no choice but to acclimate myself with my new school.
During this first week, my greatest source of support was my fellow students, faced with the exact same problems I had to deal with. The teachers all tried their best and succeeded at creating a welcoming and supportive environment, but working with my peers to understand the new school helped me learn faster and feel more comfortable sooner.
As a sophomore, I unexpectedly earned the title of Science Bowl captain. Although I participated in Science Bowl since middle school, I felt unprepared and unworthy of this title, having no experience leading my peers. Acclimating myself to this new role took time, where I relied on the members for advice before gaining enough confidence to make decisions on my own. Instead of trying to appear self-assured, I told members exactly what my worries were and asked for
