Guards used to beat those prisoners who weren’t working hard enough. Sometimes the guards beat the prisoners for no apparent reason the injustice was real. Prisoners were routinely shot or selected for gassing due to minor misbehaviors. If the prisoners became too skinny to work, then there were regular selections where the weak ones would be selected for gassing.
