Question One What the author is trying to convey about movie spectators is that we all pay attention to each film’s plot. Whether it’s boring or captivating, the spectators are always engaged. Giannetti’s reasoning for this is that active spectators want to understand the movie no matter the film. “Even when the story is boring, mechanical, and utterly derivative, we still can get sucked into its plot machinations. We want to know where the action is leading” (Giannetti 337). I completely agree with this. I believe all spectators pay attention to the plot no matter the film. This applies even to uninteresting films. To dislike a film, you must understand the plot first. Understanding the plot determines if the movie will appeal to you or not.

The image depicts a plain with people and vehicles as the subject. Assuming the people are travelers, you can barely make out the fires the dark figures have started. I can also make out one figure sitting, leaning back. Therefore, we can assume they’ve stopped to rest. Also, we can make out a group of the travelers standing together. Perhaps they’re deciding on where to go next. However, it’s difficult to know for sure due to the distance of the shot.
Question Three The medium shot I chose is on page 10 from the movie, Juno. The shot depicts a boy and a pregnant girl. The couple are shown from the knees up in an outdoor environment. We can assume the scene to be mid dialogue due to the mans mouth opened. The subject of the dialogue most likely is the pregnancy. I made this connection because his hand is over her stomach while they are both smiling. This shot is also considered a two shot because it contains two figures at the medium distance.
