The ancient story of Gilgamesh is told in two different ways by a packet version by the Assyrian International News Agency and Herbert Mason’s version a verse narrative, Gilgamesh. While they both tell the Story of Gilgamesh, how they tell it and what they say is very different.
The similarities between the works are as follows. Firstly, they both use many words to describe in detail who Gilgamesh is. For example, in Mason’s version, he spends a lot more time describing Enkidu’s relationship with the prostitute. In the (AINA) version, they describe in excruciating detail the killing of Humbaba. Secondly, both works follow the same writing structure. Both Mason and (AINA) versions divide the works into sections that roughly cover the same materials that tell a specific part of Gilgamesh’s story. Thirdly, they are both narratives. Mason’s Version is a verse narrative, which suggests that it has no rhyme scheme, while the (AINA) version is written more like a story.
