Poetry should not be characterized or labeled because of its content. Every poet has the right of freedom of speech and should not be criticized because of the way he/she writes. Poets, as any other person, shall not be judged because of the way they express their feelings. Also, I believe poetry is about being unique, creative and to make people wonder what it is all about. It should not be restricted by the acceptance of society. Howl, is a clear example of a poet who followed his feelings and that knew he had the right to express them however he wanted. Even though it was labeled as vulgar or insane, I consider this poem is rich because of its descriptions and uniqueness. As the beginning, he captures the reader’s attention by his uniqueness way of communicating his thoughts and feelings. Moloch could be described as a religious term in this poem, but I believed Ginsburg did not use it as if. I think he just made a reference because society was sacrificing their lives to the government and armies by not being free and it is similar to the way parents sacrifice their children to Molach. “Moloch! Moloch! Nightmare of Moloch! Moloch of the loveless! Mental Moloch! Moloch the heavy judger of men” (2545). Moloch, which represents the government and capitalism in this poem is a nightmare for the society and it lives in their mind. “The heavy judger o men” is the most important part in this line in my opinion. It is the most important because it clears the thought that society is being judged being themselves. Society has to do what is expected from them to do in order to be good people. “Moloch whose name is the Mind!” (2545) Moloch is the insanity that has destroyed the minds of society and converted them into
