The reason why Gladwell included the story of Renee and the math problem is to use her hard-working effort and the self-teaching that was involved to prove his claim. This is clearly evident when after the story Gladwell uses her to reach his conclusion that people who work hard are best at math. Gladwell would think that Renee might be a success. The reason why I say this is because of the fact that hard-working ethic and a mindset to never give up only helps you on math. However, being good at math alone is not enough to be successful.
