According to Holly Shaftel, a lead researcher at NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), until 1950 the carbon dioxide level had never been above 300 parts per million. Today it is at 400 million. (Shaftel) This problem is not new and has been going on for the entire time humans have been alive. In fact, this problem has been known about as early as the 1990’s. According to J. Goldenberg, a reporter on what to do to stop global warming, “ At the Toronto Conference on Climate Change in 1988, the world's industrialized nations agreed on a goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions 20 percent by the year 2005…Although difficult to achieve, the Toronto goal is certainly reachable.” (Goldenberg) People have been trying to solve this issue for a long time, and if people continue to do very little then there will be disastrous …show more content…
If people do not stop global warming soon, it will make many places much harder to live in affecting not just animals but people. According to an article about Potential Effects of Global Warming on the Sacramento/San Joaquin watershed and the San Francisco estuary, it says that, “By 2090, average temperatures are projected to have increased 2.1°C, resulting in a loss of about 1/2 of the watershed's total April snowpack. The loss indicated above would have large effects on stream flows throughout the watershed.” This means that in many places in California it is going to be significantly harder to get water without the April snowpack. Sadly, this is not the only way that global warming will affect us. According to a study performed by NASA, if people do not do anything there could be more severe glacial retreat, sea level rise, shrinking ice sheets, and more extreme events. (Shaftel) That means 50 years from now this world may not be doing so
