When looking at the song “Goliath” by Melanie Doane, and “Action Hero” by Rulon Openshaw, it is apparent that they have opposing views of heroism. While talking about how to overcome their challenges, the author of “Goliath” goes on to say “But now I see it’s up to me no one else can fight this fight.” In this quote, Doane tries to explain to the reader that there is no one better to trust than themselves. To rise up to the challenge and “do what you feel in your heart,” is the calling of a true hero. On the contrary, “Action Hero” presents a view where instead of chasing heroism, heroism is placed upon a person, regardless of choice.
