From the reading “Good Country People” Hulga is formerly known as “Joy” and believes she has brought herself up as an intellectually superior person, separating herself from her nave family. She tries seducing male antagonist, Manly Pointer, but instead finds herself seduced by him when she is lead astray into the barn loft and he steals her prosthetic leg abandoning her. Looking through her cynical lens, Hulga held up a very arrogant front in the beginning, but her ideas about being better than everyone else should be humbling after this experience. I believe people should not trust everyone that stands at the foot of the cross because some people may be fraudulent; that being said, Hulga was convinced that Manly was the simple country type
