I feel like Emily reassures the stereotypical views of Americans that they already have in a way. Based on the few episodes viewed, I came to the conclusion that Emily may be struggling with her new endeavors in France/Europe. The culture in France is so much different from what Emily is used to here in America, so it is harder for her to adjust along with not knowing French. Goodfellas is based on the true life story of Henry Hill. Henry grew up in an underprivileged neighborhood in Brooklyn and came from an Italian/Irish family. Henry fell victim to the crime at a young age, which spearheaded his future mob activities. This aspect of the movies ignites the stereotype that Italians are or have ties to the Mafia, which in most times is not true. I think Henry is just a product of his environment and was easily influenced to participate in illegal activity due to his surroundings.Henry saw how the mob guys were respected in his neighborhood and earned large amounts of money, so he wanted to be a part of that. The movie does encompass Italian culture, sadly due to its impact on pop culture, Goodfellas is seen as a classic by the vast majority of people. Goodfellas is a movie heavily immersed in Italian culture, so most people won't be able to make the distinction due to their preconditioned stereotypical views. Jennifer Lopez plays an Italian wedding planner, Mary, who falls for the groom, Steve,(played by Matthew McConaughey) whose wedding she's planning.
