Under his camera, the photograph which was named "Outside Locking In, Mobile, Alabama, 1956" in "Segregation Story, 1956" portrays six young colored children who stand against a playground where is just only for white people. The image is not simply about a beautiful view with those children; there is an intense expectation of those children to join the playground. Moreover, it shows clearly about the segregation which is one of the social issues still exists up to now.
The image is bright because of the colorful mixture of nature. There is a blue sky, white cloud, green trees, green grass, yellow sunshine, especially a small red flower on the left of the image. In the arrangement of the composition of the image, obviously, there is a far distance from the children to the playground. The wire fence is like a boundary which divides into two separate areas where each area has people who have the same skin color. The image is known as an evidence to show one of the facts about racial segregation in Alabama in 1956 and how people treated other people. Those children are like the little red flower. They are small and innocent. If adults are enough old to be aware of the segregation, children are too small to understand what is going on. It is really unfair to
