The South Carolina Department of Corrections is highly influenced by the state government. It starts in the South Carolina Code of laws, Title 24; Chapter 1 (SCGoverment, 2014). The state laws originally initiated this department and govern any new policies. These policies are debated in the state congress by the state Senators and the South Carolina House of Representatives. Any new laws or regulations are debated by committees and then a bill is written to be passed. Both sides of the state congress votes and if the majority votes in favor of the bill it is then sent to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.
