Also, though her introduction is brief, it captures the theme that Woolf laid out for her readers to obtain from the essay. Sarah’s thesis statement was brief, but it captured the main points that would be further discussed. Moreover, Sarah’s flow from each rhetorical tool made more broad connections of how each contributed to developing the theme. Specifically, her transitioned from pathos to syntax allowed her to continue her point, but also build the same argument. This specifically impressed me because it allowed me to more coherently understand her explanations of how each quotation portrayed the rhetorical device. Both Sarah and Gracyn wrote well-developed and well-written papers explaining Woolf’s use of rhetorical devices to portray her theme in her …show more content…
My main goals are to be able to explain the rhetorical tools in more depth and make better connections between rhetorical tools and the text. My minor goal will be to ensure my grammar and word use are correct. In order to achieve my first goal of explaining the rhetorical tools more, I will read the text more in depth and take notes while reading. I sometimes have a hard time fully understanding pieces of literature like Wolf’s essay, so I need to find a way to better understand what is being discussed. Also, I need to outline how the rhetorical tools are present in the text and how they contributed to the theme. To do this, I need to learn the rhetorical tools more, other than pathos, ethos, and logos, I still need to improve my knowledge of the others. As for my other goal, I think making an outline of what I want to include before I start writing will help me. Rather than start writing, then go search for examples, finding examples and building a paper from there, will allow me to strengthen my arguments and points. In addition, I need to sit down and talk with Ms. Bolles (you). Sitting down and talking out my papers always helps me realize the changes that need to happen. Last year in AP Seminar, I sat down with Mrs. Coleman and talked through a paper and it really solidified for me what I needed to fix and change in my writing. Finally, to accomplish my minor goals,
