Grains are an unnatural source of nutrition for dogs. Ancestors of the current dogs did not need grains in their diet, so it would make sense for our dogs not to need grains or gluten although their bodies have evolved to be able to digest these things. These ancestors were carnivorous animals and therefore, currents dogs are mainly carnivorous also.
