Charles Carter “C.C.” Comstock moved to Grand Rapids in 1853, where he established numerous lumber related businesses. In 1872, Comstock founded the Grand Rapids Chair Company, remaining the largest shareholder until his death in 1900. He also entered politics, serving as Mayor of Grand Rapids(1863-4) and congressman for Michigan’s fifth congressional district (1885-7).
