The article I chose "Teaching Mathematics through Multicultural Literature" shows the importance of incorporating multicultural literature in mathematics to students. The article describes a math lesson for a first grade ESL class using the book My Granny Went To Market: A Round-the-World Counting Rhyme by Stella Blackstone. The lesson was designed to help students count and add by using tally marks, while listening to a story that shows a different culture than their own. The story is about a grandmother who travels around the world purchasing different items for her grand-daughter.
