Essentially, the rhetorical situation is the events that occur and contribute to communication. The Facebook page is an example of a rhetorical situation where the teachers are engaging with their students to present necessary information. One of the four components of Grant-Davie’s rhetorical situation, is the exigence, defined as “the matter and motivation of the discourse”, taking into to consideration, “what the discourse is about, why it is needed, and what it should accomplish” (351). The exigence is what drives the initiation of a specific conversation. The Facebook page is clearly about the dance studio, and it is necessary to keep all of the members in the community informed on any events. Assets are constraints that help the purpose of the discourse and liabilities are those that can hurt the purpose of the discourse.
