Centerville police discover the body of a 36-year-old white male, identified as Gravel Brooks, in a partially mowed field adjoining a rest stop on the I-213 tollway about twenty miles north of Centerville. Mr. Brooks’ body was discovered at 19:30 hours on Monday, November 11th. He was found lying face up on a yellow, queen size sheet. According to autopsy reports, Mr. Brooks died of a single gunshot to the occipital region of the head. -A single brass 380 auto casing was recovered in the grass within one foot of the yellow sheet
-Two paper plates, partially eaten fried chicken, deviled eggs, potato salad, and chocolate cake were located in a nearby trash container and appeared to recently discarded. -An open bottle of red wine was found next to the decedent on the yellow sheet.
-A recently smoked cigarette butt was found near the parking space at the rest stop.
-Shoeprints found from the rest stop into the field were those of a male, size 10, and two heel marks from a woman’s right shoe 2.65 feet apart
-Car tracks of the same wheelbase and tread pattern as Mr. Brooks’ automobile were found in some soft dirt within a parking space at the rest stop. Mr. Brooks’ unlocked car, with a broken passenger side signal light and side mirror, was found at a secondary scene in downtown Centerville with a full tank of gas.
Detectives suspect that a female friend of Mr. Brooks was responsible for his demise. After questioning family and friends, it was discovered that the deceased had frequent social outings with up to six different women who live in or near Centerville. The women’s names are: Rose, Lauren, Glenda, Jackie, Elaine, and
