Greece is a popular country that people have immigrated from to live in Australia. The predominant year of migration from Greece was the 1960’s, with almost 45,000 people immigrating to Australia. The main language spoken by this ethnic group is modern Greek, with a good understanding of the English language. This ethnic group’s principal country is Greece, with over 6,000 islands within the country, which is located in southeastern Europe. The main reasons for migration are in the search of a better life, including greater economic opportunities and political stability. However, Government policies such as the Immigration Restriction Act, also known as the ‘White Australia' policy prevented a number of Greeks attempting to immigrate over to Australia.
