This adulterous relationship is an example of greed because Tom already has a wife who he is already possessive of, but he feels the need to go beyond that relationship to engage with Myrtle. The inclusion of greed in a romantic relationship can be defined as lustful in nature. And to add to the sinful relationship, Myrtle is the wife of George Wilson. This relationship based in greed ultimately leads to Myrtle’s tragic death. Thinking Tom was in Gatsby’s car returning from vacation, “ She rushed out into the dusk, waving her hands and shouting” to be tragically hit by the “death car” (pg 137). Though tom was not actually in the car, it was the thought of seeing him or in other words, their lustful relationship that brought her out into the street and to her death. Thus it was their greed that brought about her untimely death. Greed, Both financially and romantically, can lead to tragic ends as seen in the two male protagonists in the Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby and Tom Buchanan. Greed leads to our protagonists to be insecure in what they have and to reach beyond their means causing tension and ultimate tragedy. It is shown when Gatsby shows financial greed which lead to him being lonely. In conclusion, Greed whether it is financial or romantic can have strong repercussions on people’s future and
