In Girl with a Pearl Earring, by Tracy Chevalier, Griet goes on a hero quest without even knowing it. A hero quest is typically broken down into three sections: the descent, the initiation, and the return. Within those sections are different phases. Although Griet does not fit the transformation phase, she does fit the archetype of a hero on a hero’s quest because her journey coincides with the call and threshold.
