I always saw them at school, but they never participated in my classroom. They had their own class in a different area where they never interacted with all the other students. About halfway through my sophomore year in high school, I began working as a receptionist at Sweet Pea’s Therapy, a pediatric clinic for speech, occupational, and physical therapy. Although not all the kids who came to the clinic had a disability, a great majority did. I was given an incredible opportunity to work with kids who were classified as mentally disabled. Through this process, I realized that they are just like anyone else in society: they like to play with their peers, they enjoy learning, and they love everyone
