In society, the issue of poverty has been overlooked and ignored by majority of the world. Before reading Grustavo Gutiérrez book “A Theology of Liberation”, many were under the impression that poverty was reflected amongst the person and his/her unwillingness to help him/her succeed in life. However, Gutiérrez defines poverty as solidarity with the poor and the protest against the structures that make up the system which cause poverty. The two definitions are completely difference due to the fact that Gutiérrez is explaining poverty as an action one must take, whereas, general’s view of poverty is more focused on a personal matter. Poverty amongst the poor is a reflection of society because of the injustice and rejection of the poor
