The event started on time, with the usual lady who talks about studying abroad, introducing the night. She introduced the speakers and told the audience to stay after for refreshments. His presentation had NO WORDS, but featured lots of pictures. He was being rushed because the other speakers took too long, but I wish his speaking was longer. All of the other speakers felt very school assignment and unpracticed. The first speaker’s whole presentation was a blurry video she did at home it did not have the same effect as if she was doing it in person. The video had fun facts about the countries but did not have any real-life pictures which I was really interested in. Tameka did a great job of talking about the differences in Guatemala’s health care system and ours here in America. You could tell she was passionate about becoming a nurse, but she was so quite I could barely hear her talk. She would start talking louder when she started talking about her feelings. Whenever she talked about how exhilarating the zip line or how sad she felt taking care of sick children I could practically feel it. Chris was more focused on the scholarly side, he said multiple times, “This teacher made me do it” or “I studied this.”, which made him sound obnoxious. It sounded like he just went to Ireland for a note on his resume not for fun, he didn’t even have any pictures. Even though almost all of the speakers felt like school presentations it still made me curious about studying abroad here at Davidson county community college.
