In Ancient Mirrors of Womanhood, the portrayal of Gum Lin, a mortal woman from China, is a myth of a heroine so concerned about the people of her village that she would not sway from her goal of helping them, even when tempted by personal comforts and riches.
The story begins with the village suffering from a drought. Water was important to the village people because they made a living off the agriculture. Yet, with scare water the land began to dry and this worried Gum Lin. In the hopes of helping her village Gum Lin sought to discover a new source of water. Eventually Gum Lin discovered a water source but it was locked behind a gate, which a water dragon guarded the key to the gate. Instead of being fearful, Gum Lin, with the help of Loy
