Violence in America caused by lack of Gun Control Gun control has been a political issue for many years. This is an issue that America seems to have a problem with finding a solution to. What can be stopped to prevent this issue? Will congress and the president challenge this difficult process of identifying the main cause of gun violence? The best way to have stricter gun control is to have more thorough background checks of those people who wish to buy guns. The United States has the most cases of gun violence, there is no gun control. To begin, what is gun control? Gun control is the efforts to regulate or control sales of guns. Why is Gun control important? Gun control has come to be one of those main political issues because of gun violence. Guns are giving in the wrong hands. Innocent people are getting hurt because of the misuse. Guns are being given to ones who do not need it. This is negatively affecting America because of all the violence. Who is to blame? Yes, it is legal to own a gun with proper procedures, such as a gun license. Your gun must be registered in order to legally own it. Governor Andrew Cuomo has put in place a SAFE Act which is supposed to stop criminals and the dangerously mentally ill from buying a gun by requiring universal background checks on gun purchases, increases penalties for people who use illegal guns, mandates life in prison without parole for anyone who murders a first responder, and imposes the toughest assault weapons ban in the country. For hunters, sportsmen, and law abiding gun owners, this new law preserves and protects your right to buy, sell, keep or use your guns."
We the people have a right to bear arms according to the second amendment. "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." A "well-regulated Militia” is to argue that the Framers intended only to restrict Congress from legislating away a state's right to self-defense.
The Gun dealers must require background checks for private sales, the SAFE Act will help ensure that guns are only sold to individuals legally permitted to have them. By conducting those background checks, dealers can play a vital role in protecting the public by making sure guns don't fall into the wrong hands. We have this act set in place but yet we still have firearms being sold to ones who are not registered.
How many people own guns in America? There are estimates, According to the Geneva-based Small Arms Survey – the leading source of international public information about firearms – the U.S. has the best-armed civilian population in the world, with an estimated 270 million total guns. That’s an average of 89 firearms for every 100 residents. That is a lot of people. Also, According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which handles that registration, there were more than 3.1 million National Firearms Act-registered weapons in the U.S. as of March 2012. That includes more than 488,000 machine guns and more than 2 million “destructive devices” such as grenades, which are also classified under the law.
There have been many incidents, such as the shooting in the Colorado high school. Two teenage boys had opened fire in their Colorado high school, killing 12 fellow students and a teacher. There has been has led to an increase in the number of people calling for strict gun control legislation.
Gun control is a term that describes the use of law to limit people's access to handguns, shotguns, rifles, and other firearms, through passing statutes that require, for example, gun purchasers to undergo background checks for criminal
