3. Gunnery Sergeant Tenzin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at Recruiting Station Newark, New Jersey and attended recruit training in June of 2001. Upon completion of recruit training and follow on schools, he was assigned to the Artillery Cannoneer Course in Fort Sill, Oklahoma in November of 2001. Upon graduating the course, Gunnery Sergeant Tenzin arrived at his first Fleet Marine Force (FMF) unit, Battery S, 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment aboard Camp Pendleton, California. Upon redeployment, Gunnery Sergeant Tenzin remained with Battery S. In 2008, Fifth Battalion officially transitioned over to become the Marine Corps' first and only High Mobility Artillery Rocket Battalion (HIMARS). Because of his technical prowess Gunnery Sergeant Tenzin transitioned from M198 to HIMARS Section Chief. He immediately deployed in support of OIF VI as a HIMARS section chief. During this deployment, Gunnery Sergeant Tenzin supervised his section and ensured they remained capable of providing fire support across the Regional Command twenty four hours a day.
