Chinese began experimenting with the gunpowder-filled tubes. After that they attached the rockets to bamboo and launched them with arrows. Soon after that they realized they could launch themselves with a place for the gas to escape. The date reporting the first use of real rockets was in 1232. The Chinese and the Mongols were at war with each other when this was happening. When the 16th century came around they were used as weapons of war. They were also used for fireworks; Johann Schmidlap created a firework that flew into the sky and exploded multiple different times. during the 17th century scientist began studying the rockets to find out everything they could do with it.
