Gunpowder was a very important part to the success and the eventual downfall of the Tang Dynasty. Gunpowder was not a new invention per say, but its uses during this time had expanded. It was first used in the mines of China, exploding tough rock and allowing miners to go farther than just a simple pickaxe ever could. Gunpowder was also used in fireworks and other explosives that were used to celebrate, or in war time activities, to scare off intruders, like the Huns and other horse nomads. Those nomads saw that China was hiding a great boon behind their walls and then decided to take it when they were weak.
