Interestingly, HGTV has become an American institution; furthermore, the home-focused television network is celebrated for shows that illustrate the everlasting quest for dream houses in the most perfect neighborhoods (Garcia-Navarro, 2019). In reality, the majority of neighborhoods in the United States are racially segregated; therefore, the question is to assess whether the racial make-up of a neighborhood finds its roots in racial segregation. Essentially, the American racialization of neighborhoods is associated with the rise of industrialism that already excluded African Americans (Desmond & Emirbayer, 2019:154).
