In 2012 I completed my HNC in social sciences in which I achieved an A grade; this then allowed me the opportunity to study philosophy at the University of Glasgow. My interest in sociology developed first from being introduced to it during my HNC in social sciences and then from continuing to study it during my degree at Glasgow in the first and second year. I somewhat regret not choosing sociology as an option for a joint degree in conjunction with philosophy during this time. However, I did not wish to reduce the time I would spend in philosophy classes, I sought to engage with as much philosophy as I could and this notion still resonates with me. In particular, investigating the rise of irreligion and spirituality in the United States and the majority of Western Europe, as well as looking at some negative consequences of religion in impoverished areas as is the case with witchcraft in parts of Africa. Some of the other areas that I was captivated by were postmodernist conceptions of family and debate involving issues of sex and gender, and the role of media in society.
