All throughout high school, I aspired to go into the health profession. In preparation for my future career, I became active in the health science program the school offered. In my sophomore year, the school added a new addition to the staff to help teach the health science classes. The new health teacher opened a HOSA- Future Health Professionals chapter at the school and the club started off with roughly ten members. As one of the original members, I had the option to run as an official for the chapter. I ran for Historian but did not receive the vote. Over the course of the year, I noticed the leaders elected were highly disorganized. The club remained in the shadows, unbeknown to the school. Meetings happened sporadically with a low attendance rate (especially among the officers). The chapter was off to a weak start. Working with the new officer team, we were able to obtain over two dozen new members. HOSA began to garner status within the school through interactive projects, such as passing out red ribbons for red ribbon week and bringing in medical professionals for career day. As the club procured funds, the Waxahachie HOSA chapter was able to send seven people to compete at the Area Conference in the Spring of 2016. I volunteered to represent my school as one of the seven competitors and ended up placing 6th out of 42 in my event. Being able to interact with other chapters opened my eyes to the potential the Waxahachie chapter could achieve. As this was our first competition, I took advantage of the learning experience and became familiar with the competition layout and function. I conversed with leaders from other schools and took notes on effective leadership styles. With my newly acquired knowledge and understanding of HOSA, I decided to run for
