Hacksaw Ridge. It is known as The Battle of Okinawa. It was the last major battle in World War Two, and the bloodiest. There were more than 180,000 US Army and Marine soldiers on the island of Okinawa. This was the final push to Japan it's called Operation Iceberg for the United States to get the Pacific Islands. The war was almost over when this battle happened. Japan and America knew if Okinawa fell then Japan would be next. It had started on March twenty-third,1945 and ended on June twenty-third, 1945. The battle was eighty-two days long. It’s the largest land and sea battle in the history of the world. The island of Okinawa is between Japan and Taiwan Island. It’s the bloodiest battles of the Pacific War and World War 2. Okinawa island is used as a base to attack Japan. This battle had the most casualties during the war. Japan had no allies during the battle and it was hard for them. Both American and British Armies,Navies and Marine Corps had beat Japan’s hold on Okinawa. Japan’s battleship known as Yamato, was sunk by American pilots along with most of the crew. On April seventh, 1945 Yamato launched a surprise attack on American’s Fifth Fleet. The thirty second Army of Japan included an unknown number of civilians and unarmed Home Guards known as Boeitai. The American Fifth Fleet launched the biggest bombardment to lessen the Japanese defenses. American had eighteen battle ships (more than 14,000 ships total). The Japanese thirty-second Army included 130,000 men commanded by Lt. Gen Mitsuru Ushijima. The members of the American twenty-ninth Marines were moving to take Ghuta. Japanese soldiers had used grenades during the battle. The Japanese soldiers had pinned down American soldiers near Shuri Line. The town of Motobu had intense resistance with 1,000 deaths but the United States won. The United States soldiers didn’t hesitate to get to the beach.
