Mod acrylic is used in Kanekalon which is considered one of the most common synthetic hair fibers. Kanekalon comes from Asia and is used mostly to add length when braiding hair or to help the braided style hold better. This fiber is flame retardant so the ends can be sealed with heat so the braid does not unravel. Toyokalon is another synthetic fiber that is made in China and heat resistant. The Toyokalon fiber feels somewhat similar to human hair and has a greasy look to it (one of the tell-tell signs that it’s not real hair). Before beginning any hair extension service always remember to do a client consultation first. The client consultation will allow you to determine the best method for the client, to make sure the client returns with her own hair still in place, and the client is able to maintain the hair in between salon visits. I like to divide them up into two categories. You have your non-glue and your glue method. I will discuss the glue method first since it was the first method I was introduced to. The bonding, fusion, and skin weft method require glue. This glue is not your normal household glue this is glue that is specially made for the hair only. The bonding method is done by taking pre measured wefts of hair and applying hair bonding glue to the base of the weft, then attach the hair as close as you can to the scalp making sure the hair is not on the scalp. Let the glue dry for a couple of seconds and then move on to the next section working up the head. The fusion method is done by taking sections of hair that has been pre dipped in keratin glue and attaching it to individual strands of hair by using a special heating tool. The tool will melt the glue onto the client’s hair and then roll with fingers to make sure the extensions is properly attached. The skin weft method is done by taking wefts of pre measured hair and attaching a special double sided tape
